I believe that you can believe what you want to believe.
I further belief that the Family Research Council is led by an inveterate liar:
In 1891 Salvation Army Captain Joseph McFee, in an effort to feed the hungry and destitute in San Francisco, started the tradition of what today is the famous red kettles manned by volunteer bell ringers who collect public contributions to help those who need it most. Despite the innumerable good deeds done by the Salvation Army, they have come under fire in recent years because they believe Jesus Christ is our savior. The latest attack against the Salvation Army comes in the Midwestern city of Madison, Wisconsin - and the offending bell ringers are third grade students from Chavez Elementary School.
Traditionally the third grade class would volunteer with their teacher to ring the bells besides the red kettles, allowing students firsthand experience that Christmas is more than an XBOX and/or iPod, it's about helping those in need as Christ himself would do.
The Salvation Army has come under fire because they want to take federal dollars, yet be exempt from federal anti-discrimination laws. Specifically, the Salvation Army doesn't want to have to hire homosexuals.
I'm not a theologian, but I did average over 90 on all my confirmation exams. Jesus befriended whores, lepers, and tax collectors. What makes the Salvation Army think that Jesus would spurn homosexuals?
So long as you can believe in Jesus and not hate homosexual, the FRC is led by a liar.
they can say anything they want and not be challenged, really because it is based on faith. its bullshit.

I can't disagree with anything which has been said regarding the FRC and the Salvation Army, but this one hit close to home. That's my daughters class.
The FRC is attempting to make hay from this to show that they are the oppressed majority. That's evil.
To the kids, they were going to help the poor. They've also been collecting food at the school as part of the 3rd grade community service.
Our litmus test for donating is that what is collected is distributed without regard to the recipients beliefs.
From what I can tell, the Salvation Army doesn't apply a test, or require anything of the recipient. That's good, and why we drop money in the buckets and donate food and toys to them.
The thing that pisses me off is that now a group of parents has organized another bell ringing for the kids. That's good, and we're going, but now I'll have to put up with a bunch of right wing wack jobs who wouldn't have anything to do with this otherwise. Now they are doing it because they listen to O'Reilly and the FRC.
