One more thought on John Kline. One of the most-worn pages in the Republican playbook is to say that the other candidate will do or say anything to get elected. Bush ran this play against Gore and Kerry to great effect.
The theme means a lot of things. It means your opponent has no core values. It means your opponent is dishonest. It means your opponent values political power over honest debate.
In short, it's a direct reflection of Kline's approach to the Klink photo.
Kline is cynically taking umbrage at a photograph. All his manufactured anger is predicated on distorting the common cultural understanding Col. Klink.
Kline is willing to play dumb about a photo of Col. Klink. He's willing to reject an apology to keep an issue alive for a few more days. He's willing to do or say anything to keep himself in power.
Everything you say is true, and Kline is a toady. However, why are the Democrats such "shoot themselves in the foot morons" as to give the Republicans the opportunity? Judging from how Democrats campaign, it's no wonder that the public trusts the Republicans to govern.

, atThe Republicans took control of the federal government not because the had better ideas, but because they had ideas at all. The Democratic party, after 8 successful years of triangulation, needed a message for the future. Al Gore and John Kerry didn't communicate a positive vision for where they would lead the country.
You're right. Al Gore and John Kerry stood for nothing because they stood for everything for everybody. Hillary Clinton is now doing the same thing.
