Opposed to the opposition

Smilin' Norm still opposes the opposition to CAFTA, but is no closer to
supporting the supporters:
Sen. Norm Coleman, a Republican with close ties to the Bush administration, which negotiated the deal, is among the uncommitted. Coleman said the issue isn't so much the extra imported sugar but the precedent it would set for future free-trade deals.
"The concern is that is a slippery slope," said Coleman.
Yes, Norm. If you go against the administration on a free trade deal, who knows where your independence would stop? The next thing you know, you've lost favor among your fellow Republican apparatchiki and it's Tim Pawlenty who gets the VP nod in an effort to turn Minnesota red in 2008.
