Durbin's apology

Posted by: Hammer / 8:19 AM

If I had one clear thought about Durbin's apology, I'd be happy to share it. I don't. I have a bunch of feelings. I don't like feelings in the first place, beside the fact that they don't do much good.

Bob Somerby has a strong opinion on the matter (the political reaction to Durbin's invocation of creeping fascism is yet more evidence of creeping fascism). Kos is mad as hell but not saying much about it. Kos recommends Balloon Juice:

And one more thing- Dick Durbin didn't do anything wrong- he used some stupid rhetoric. He could have used a better example, and it was stupid to include regimes as murderous as the Khmer Rouge and the Nazis in that speech, even though he didn't compare our troops to those guys. But that doesn't give us any excuse to ignore his message.
Yeah, we should save our Khmer Rouge rhetoric for the public schools.

I don't fully agree with any of these posts, but I think there's an element of truth in all of them.
