Judith Miller has been jailed. No, not for crimes against democracy by spreading the lies of Ahmed Chalabi all across page 1 of the New York Times. She's actually in jail for the crime of defending democracy -- freedom of the press to hold confidential the names of her sources.
That instant karma can be a real bitch.
The really interesting part is that the other journalist threatened with jail time, Matthew Cooper, received a "somewhat dramatic" phone call from his source freeing him to testify. This would indicate one of two things. Either Cooper's source is different than Miller's. Or they have the same source, but he (cough! Karl Rove! cough!) is part of the large swath of Americans who really, really don't like Judith Miller.
