Silence

Posted by: Hammer / 11:56 AM

I'm on a number of mailing lists which give me breaking news from the religious right's point of view. During the votes on John Roberts, I got two emails a day from Tony Perkins. Bush nominated Harriet Miers for the Supreme Court this morning and so far I've heard nothing. The silence is eerie. Where is Perkins? Dobson? The CWA? Why aren't they emailing me?

I listen to conservative radio and the right is at best puzzled about the nomination. Many feel betrayed. They were spoiling for a fight and for Bush to pull the nuclear trigger, but apparently that won't happen. Harry Reid and Chuck Schummer seem pretty satisfied with her, which really torks the right. This is even though no-one can be sure of her views. I personally think Bush is playing it sly. This nominee is a Bush Crony and she won't likely betray her close friend and his legacy. She knows what Bush promised to deliver to his base and she understands the backlash if Bush delivers another moderate to the court. I would bet the two had a heart to heart conversation about this. Time will tell but my money says she will be an originalist ala Scalia and Thomas. She will be confirmed.
