OK, credit where it's due--I enjoyed Katherine Kersten's column today. I know, I know. Heresy. Of course it's still written in the cliched style that caused her to be labeled Minnesota's Worst Writerâ„¢ but it's such a good story that even Katherine can't fully destroy it.
One could be forgiven for thinking someone else at the Strib was filling in for her over the holiday Christmas break since there is no mention of a Republican politician, the power of the free market, or what a good thing churches are. In fact, part of the success of town she writes about is credited to raising taxes and a government funded land give-away. My explanation? Bizzaro World Katherine.
Fact is, churches ARE a good thing. Like every institution, there are those that are more than one and a half standard deviations from the mean. That fact means that there are some bad ones to be sure, but nevertheless most churches are good. It's tiresome to hear liberals bash religion.

, atI don't think that was bashing religion, it was bashing KK for so often resorting to pedestrian arguments in her columns. If she ever had something interesting/new/creative to say on that topic I would likely concede that she was making a valid point. As it turns out you have provided a more nuanced discussion of the topic in a four sentence blog comment than she has in several months of full length columns. Maybe the Strib could use a "real Republican" columnist.
Well, I'd have to quit my day job. And truth be told, I'm not really very nuanced - just ask Mrs. TRR. I'll take your point however, and thanks for the compliment
KK does indeed fill her columns with a lot of right-wing pap. Occasionally (emphasise "occasionally")she comes up with a kernal worth noting.
