Since TWN is being all thinky and stuff...
The Shiv told me about this speech and as I am currently in my reflective phase (about ten minutes each year), I thought I would share. David Foster Wallace, who recently released another splendid book of essays, gave a commencement speech at Kenyon last May. Old news, but the speech is good in a Life Lessons That Don't Seem As Life Lesson-y When They Are Told With A Sense Of Humor And In A Self-Deprecating Manner sort of way. Next time I decide to get a degree, I am going somewhere that gets decent commencement speakers. And no, there are no footnotes.
