A rising tide lifts all boats

Posted by: Hammer / 11:03 AM

But it lifts some boats more. A lot more. And not by accident.

from what I've seen, actually, rising tides swamp some boats. Certain neighborhoods, too.

As long as it doesn't swamp the nice boats...

David Brooks (I know, I know) in today's NYT has some interesting things to say about this topic. Point is, it doesn't matter what your complaint is, if people won't vote for you it doesn't matter.

Democrats still need to figure out how to successfully turn values into policies, and communicate policies as values.

I thought Brooks made some good points as well. When he plays it straight he can be a pretty insightful guy. I don't know about his solution but he sure nailed the conventional thinking among Dems. I've heard many of us compalin that lower and middle class conservatives vote against their own economic interests. I've always thought that shouldn't come as that big a surprise, as an upper middle class liberal environmentalist I vote my values over my economic interests all the time.
