It was a lot of fun watching Terence Dials and Alando Tucker put up huge games last night. Dials has always impressed me with his size and skill, but he also plays with a lot of class. It's hard to play with great intensity and great composure. Dials is one of the stars of the Big Ten who can do it.
Great 1st half from Ohio State last night but an even better second half from the Badgers, who eked out a crucial win. Tucker played all 40 minutes and carried the Badgers offensively through some tough stretches. Kam Taylor, Brian Butch, and Ray Nixon took turns offensively: Butch at the start of the game, Taylor to open the 2nd half, Butch again to keep the Badgers close, and Nixon to finally give the Badgers a lead.
One reason why the Buckeyes shot poorly from beyond the arc is that the Badgers refused to double Dials on the low post. So when Dials got the ball in the paint down by 4 with less than 2 minutes to play, seeing Alando Tucker must have been a very unpleasant surprise:
Butler pulled the Buckeyes within a point with two free throws 33 seconds later, but Butch got a friendly bounce on a three-pointer to push the UW lead to 72-68 and then the 6-6 Tucker made the play of the game when he blocked the shot of the 6-9 Dials, who was so close the basket that he could have dunked the ball.
However, Tucker sensed the big man's hesitation and used his 38-inch vertical to get a piece of the ball.
