Deposits in court

Posted by: Hammer / 7:55 AM

Can we require the American Association of Petroleum Geologists to post some sort of security or deposit with the Supreme Court?:

Author Michael Crichton received a journalism award from the American Association of Petroleum Geologists for his novel State of Fear, which criticizes the theory of global warming. "It is fiction," said a spokesman for the petroleum geologists, "but it has the absolute ring of truth."

These are the same denials, the same tactics, that tobacco companies used for decades to defend the healthfulness of their product. I think we're all aware of how that turned out.

Today, the oil companies are making record profits. A portion of those profits should be deposited with the highest court in each state of the union. Tomorrow, when a whistleblower reveals that the oil industry has known all along that climate change science is valid and has chosen to intentionally mislead consumers, we can sue their asses. And I don't want Exxon filing bankruptcy to escape its responsibility.

The Stop Global Warming Virtual March is a non-partisan effort to bring all Americans together in one place to prove that global warming is here now... and, it is time for us to do something about it.

One person can change the world. Over 275,000 people have already joined. Imagine what millions of marchers can do! Together we will be heard.

It’s easy! There is every reason in the world to become a virtual marcher. Why? Because it affects our public health, our national security, our economy, our planet's future.

On Earth Day 2006, the March will arrive in Washington, DC and use the strength of our numbers to urge 1) Our government to join the rest of the world in addressing global warming, and 2) American business to start a new industrial revolution on clean energy products that reduce our dependence on oil and other global warming pollution.
