Republicans go about thumping their chests and proclaiming they are stronger on defense than the Democrats. They came out in force the week of Feb. 19 against an administration deal that would give the government of the United Arab Emirates control over six U.S. ports.
Senate records show the following Republican senators voting at least six times since 9/11 against Democrats' proposals to keep America's ports safe: Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, Bill Frist of Tennessee, Jon Kyl of Arizona, John Ensign of Nevada, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Richard Shelby of Alabama.
Voting at least five times were Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island, James Talent of Missouri, Susan Collins of Maine and Norm Coleman of Minnesota.
