Bob Harris deciphers and compares Bush's notes and press conference answers. Harris concludes:
Wow. History may not yet be written, but every damn thing Bush says apparently is. Man.
You know, the ability to speak extemporaneously is not the defining characteristic of a leader. Often times the best talkers are the worst leaders, so I don't want to draw too much from the Bush's notes.
What intrigues me though is how well the first two questions fit into Bush's semi-scripted responses. Was Bush going to give the same answers no matter what? Did he get lucky? Was predicting the questions likely to come from certain reporters easy? Or was the press conference managed in some way? Were questions screened? Topics suggested?
