There are two things wrong with this crazy article on China's purported lead in the race to militarize space:
The Chinese are beating the U.S. in the new "space race," a military strategy expert says. Australia-born defense analyst Greg Copley claims Communist China is working fast towards controlling space with its weapons technology and may even set up the first military base on the moon.
... China's military space program has "very much been speeded up by the transfer of U.S. technology under President Clinton" to the People's Republic of China, Copley observes. That communist regime has since been "investing heavily in space capabilities," he says, "including permanent moon basing, which would enable space-based weapons to neutralize strategic ballistic missiles -- and, of course, satellites."
First, this article comes from One News Now:
Whether it's a story about prayer in public schools, workplace restrictions on Christians or battles for biblical truth within our denominations, the American Family News Network (AFN) is here to tell you what the newsmakers are saying.
I'm not sure whether Chinese lasers on the moon is a prayer issue, a workplace restriction, or some biblical truth. I do know that we've spent billions of dollars to develop a local anti-ballistic missile system that doesn't work. Now some yahoo thinks the Chinese have cracked it are going to deliver lasers 400,000 kilometers away to do the job we can't do here on Earth? The moon is roughly 1.3 light-seconds away from the earth. So however the moon-based system manages to locate a missile, the missile will be 2.6 seconds away by the time the moon-men are ready to fire the laser. Doesn't sound like much, but missiles move really, really fast. Then the moon-men have to air their laser at a point 1.3 seconds in front of the missile from a distance of 400,000 kilometers.
That's a tough shot.
Look, I'm squarely in the camp that says war with China is exceedingly unlikely. If China wanted to attack the U.S., they would probably start by declining to fund our military budget. They kindly continue to do that by buying Treasury Bonds at a fantastic rate. I'll criticize the view that we need to prepare for war with China, but it's not lunacy.
The notion that China is going to build a laser-based system on the freakin' moon to shoot down our ICBMs is lunacy.
