Amtrak: And, furthermore, competition will kill Amtrak
What Atrios said. If you let private companies compete with Amtrak, that will be good news for customers of highly trafficked routes. It will be terrible news for customers of other routes. This is an attempt to kill Amtrak by making its job impossible. If Amtrak is required to provide service to certain areas, and private companies are not, Amtrak will slowly fail.
