Norm Coleman: Trying to help veterans

Posted by: Hammer / 3:40 PM

Dammit. I just don't like saying good things about Smilin' Norm Coleman. But here he is, sponsoring legislation to help disabiled veterans receive the benefits to which they are entitled:
Last July, Knight Ridder reported that an estimated 572,000 veterans might be missing out on VA disability-compensation payments, which range from $108 to $2,299 a month. The estimate was based on an analysis of VA survey data obtained under the Freedom of Information Act.

Veterans are compensated for mental or physical injuries sustained during military service, but many either don't know they're eligible or are scared off by the VA's red tape.

You're right. As we've covered here, Smilin' Norm has opposed increased funding for the VA despite the VA's increased need. It's good that Coleman wants to help connect veterans to the benefits they've earned, but if he really wants to follow through on the nation's commitment to its veterans, he needs to step up and find a way to fully fund those benefits.
