Fitzgerald is running as an independent, with no affiliation with theIndependence Party of Minnesota. In 2002, Coleman and Mondale won 97% of votes cast, while Pawlenty and Moe only won 81% of votes cast. There were no statewide races in 2004, but Kerry and Bush won 98.7% of votes cast. Clearly, any third party candidate has an uphill race to run. At the very least, I hope Fitzgerald raises important issues in the campaign.
