Wiki all the way

Posted by: Hammer / 8:13 AM

I love the Wikipedia. I've pimped the Wiki concept on more than one occasion. But this is dumb:
Yesterday morning, I read this on the LA Times editorial page:

Watch next week for the introduction of "wikitorials" — an online feature that will empower you to rewrite Los Angeles Times editorials.

This will not work. Wiki is great at assembling facts, but lousy on organizing opinion. That's why if you look up George W Bush or the invasion of Iraq you are presented with a disclaimer:
The neutrality of this article is disputed.
Wikitorials, if anyone ever bothered to read them, would be about as useful as a Lou Dobbs online poll. The exercise would quickly devolve into competing edits. At 9:01 the Wikitorial will be in favor of stem cell research. At 9:02 stem cell research will be a crime against future generations. At 9:03, if we're lucky, it will include a picture of a monkey.
