DFL Senate has a Klobuchar press release where she notes that she's been able to raise money locally while Mark Kennedy relies on the likes of Bill Frist and Dennis Hastert. But this is inexcusable:
It seems clear that Washington insiders brought in by Mark Kennedy were no match for our home-grown supporters like Martin Zellar and the Gear Daddies band from Austin."... [T]he Gear Daddies performed at a Klobuchar fundraiser in June. The band is best known for their hit song "The I wanna drive a Zamboni song."
Libby Mae's been musically miseducated, but Jambo and I are Gear Daddies fans. I've always assumed that the Gear Daddies hated being the "Zamboni" band. I know people know the song, but that song is so unrepresentative of the band's oeuvre. It's like describing Mozart as "the guy who wrote Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star."
Yes, I did just compare the Gear Daddies to Mozart. Proud to do it. Y'all haven't lived until you've seen Ms. Hammer cover Gonna Change, which is better than anything I heard in that movie with the guy from Parenthood.
Years and years ago, my voice was hoarse for two weeks from trying to sing "Stupid Boy" like Martin Zellar.
And did the Gear Daddies really play a fundraiser? I thought they were long-defunct.

The rocked for Karl in the Fall. I'd say the highlight of the show was the Grant Hart/Bob Mould reunion, but the Gear Daddies were fantastic. The Gear Daddies also played the Bascillica block party this month.
Thanks for the info, English Teach. Marty Zellar has a ton of charisma and is really quick on his feet. I think he'd be an excellent candidate if he ever chose to run for office.
It doesn't hurt that he's quite good looking, either.
