Surprised?

Me neither.

The Bush administration is expected to abandon a proposal to extend fuel economy regulations to include Hummer H2's and other huge sport utility vehicles, auto industry and other officials say.

Honest to God, if you tried to make this stuff up, you couldn't because it is so inconceivable.
Today's Drudge Report leads off with the headline, "Now INFLATION." Well, DUH!!!!! What did anyone think would happen when the price of fuel goes up 75%? And Bush's reaction is to not extend CAFE standards to Hummers, OR TO DO ANYTHING ELSE. This guy is Calvin Cooledge and Herbert Hoover reincarnated, without any of Hoover's good qualities (and to be fair, he had a lot).

If Hoover had more supporters, he could be getting credit for the economic expansion of the late '30s and beyond, just like some want to credit Reagan's 1981 tax cuts for the economic expansion in the mid-90s.

I guess, to be clear, that I should have said that Hoover's good points didn't come out of his presidency. But, he was a dedicated public servant who did some very good things during his entire career.
