Rice & Kofi: the 'Nited Nations Treat

Posted by: Hammer / 8:25 AM

Condoleeza Rice supports Kofi Annan:

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice yesterday backed Kofi Annan's continued stewardship over the United Nations despite a scathing report on the secretary-general's oversight of the Iraq oil-for-food program, but she said the scandal demands urgent overhaul of the U.N. secretariat.

"We believe that we will continue to work with the secretary-general, and we are confident that he will support the kinds of reforms that are needed to try and make sure that this sort of thing does not happen again," Miss Rice said.

Sen. Smilin' Norm Coleman (R-MN) was not deterred. He again called for Annan's resignation:

"The secretary-general is in no position to let that reform happen," he said. "If the guy leading the charge is stained with a record of incompetence, of mismanagement, of fraud, it's going to make it very hard for him to do the very heavy lifting required."

A leader stained by incompetence, mismanagement, and fraud? Gee, do we have any other leaders who fit that description? 55% of Americans might be able to come up with another name.
