Spotty has a great rundown of the Festival of Intolerance in Eden Prairie.
Here's my question: Why can pastors congregate and talk about voter registration drives and amending the state constitution without be investigated by the IRS? Especially when other churches are investigated for opposing preemptive war.
Let's save the question of whether churches merit tax exempt status for another time. We're going to have a big f'n fight in November, '06 over same-sex marriage. It's the best chance the right has to retain its grip on power. Democrats need to get in front of this issue: we need to persuasively argue what the law should be, rather than argue against what the law should not be.
I think the best answer is to require our state to afford the rights of marriage to the civil unions of same-sex couples who desire those rights. The state has no business in the religious side of anything, anyway. So let's offer a bill to define the civil rights of same-sex couples to make it clear what the Bachmann Brigade opposes.
