It's been a month since Sen. Smilin' Norm Coleman (R-MN) released this statement:
Last month, Coleman, along with Senators Olympia J. Snowe (R-ME), and Susan Collins (R-ME) obtained a commitment from Senate leadership for a separate vote on an emergency supplemental bill to provide $2 billion in additional funding for LIHEAP, early this year.
Since then heating bills have been piling up while we wait for the Republican leadership to act. At the center of the controversy is the fact that the 2005 Energy Bill authorized $5.1 billion for LIHEAP, but Congress only appropriated $2.183 billion. The Bush administration had only requested $2 billion.
Some reports indicate that an agreement to add $2 billion in funding for LIHEAP will be voted upon this month. I hope it happens, but I'm not holding my breath.
