Sen. Smilin' Norm Coleman (R-MN) was promised a vote on LIHEAP funding to take place early this year. Early matters. Early matters because it was part of the promise. Early matters because late has consequences (Quad City Time):
Winter is far from over but Iowa and 10 other states have run out of federal money to help low-income families cover rising heating bills, according to a survey released Thursday.
"Our dire warnings have proven true," said David Fox of the Campaign for Home Energy Assistance, which released the nationwide survey. "Home heating costs are higher than ever before, the need for assistance has increased, and the money being provided for the program now is grossly inadequate."
More than 77,000 low-income Iowa households have signed up for help through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance, or LIHEAP, program.
But Iowa’s share of the federal funding that pays for heating help has not grown with increased demand. And the $36 million the state received since November has all but melted away.
Smilin' Norm has refused to hold his leadership accountable for the promises made to him. Why doesn't Norm care that he's been played for a fool by people in power?
