Sounds like William Jefferson (D-LA) is going down. Hard.
And Bresnahan has more on that $100,000 cash payment made by the FBI informant at the Ritz-Carlton. The meeting was caught on video "from several vantage points," according to the FBI. The money was supposed to be passed on the Nigerian Vice President, you see, but it seems that Jefferson just kept it in his freezer.
Much of the population sees corruption as affecting both parties equally. And, so long as thee media prefers balance over all else, Jefferson will be partnered with DeLay, Cunningham, Ney, and whoever else from the GOP gets caught with a hand in the cookie jar.
What's a Democrat to do? Respond vigorously. It shouldn't be hard: Jefferson committed a crime against democracy. He's not a Democrat who made a mistake -- he's a criminal not worth the tar or feathers he should soon be coated with.
If Democrats want to be the party of good government, they have to act like the party of good government. That means a no-holds-barred approach to punishing the corrupt that would make Cactus Jack smile.
