Giving back vacation time

Posted by: Hammer / 9:09 AM

Lots of valuable, depressing information here. For example, an average CEO will make more by noon on January 2 (assuming January 1 is a company holiday) than a person working full-time for the minimum wage will make in a year. Good stuff. There's also this:

Years of unused vacation time that American workers collectively give back to their employers each year: 1.6 million

I was just in a meeting when that topic came up. Upper management was lamenting all the people who aren't using their vacation time because they are afraid of falling too far behind in their work. The solution? Encourage salaried employees to work overtime so they can use their vacation.

Working 80 hours one week so you can take vacation the following week? That's not vacation -- that's just an employee wearing himself out for the privilege of sleeping in a couple of days.
