This Guardian UK article discussing growing peace in Haiti reminds me that Bob Harris' Who Hates Whom is a great book of immediate relevance.
The book is a fast-paced survey of conflicts across the world. It's written in an engaging, open fashion. The author, Bob Harris, manages to capture his personal reaction to tragedy without preaching. At the same time, there's an undercurrent of hope throughout the book that makes reading about crushing poverty, children soldiers, and tragic abuse bearable.
I couldn't recommend the book more if Joe Heller wrote a book about Brett Favre playing with his Wii. (snicker)
