Hey, look! The Tulsa Zoo has decided that the Genesis creation story need not be explained on its property:
Dan Hicks, the local Christian architect who the proposed the biblical creation exhibit, has condemned the oversight board's change of heart as a violation of Tulsa taxpayers constitutional liberties. He maintains there must be something very special about the Genesis account of creation for the Park and Recreation board to insist on suppressing it, especially when the zoo already features religious symbols in other displays, including a statue of an elephant-like, Hindu deity.
I'm not a fan of the Ganesha statue, either, but I'm not afraid of learning about cultures outside of Tulsa. I fear there's no hope for those who can't see a difference between including an Indian statute with an Indian elephant exhibit and constructing an entire exhibit dedicated to the Genesis creation myth.
I gotta pay more attention. Clever Sponge covered this with far more erudition that I was able to muster. That's what I get for waiting for Agape to cover a story.
And not just an Indian statue with the Indian elephant exhibit, but and Indian elephant statue with the Indian elephant exhibit. I'm guessing the statue isn't even meant to teach about another religion, it's just showing how animal images show up in other cultures, not unlike seeing a native American painting of bison or a totem pole with an orca.
Hey, come by CP and read the Tulsan Horse.

I was actually driving through Tulsa on the day of the hearing. It was all over local talk radio. Pretty funny stuff. I couldn't quite talk my wife into going to the town hall meeting...too bad, I would have asked ridiculous questions and taken a lot of pictures.
