Sure, I like KCMP, especially Mary Lucia. But they really don't rock. Enter Indie 103.1, out of Los Angeles. They play some mopey stuff (Morrissey, Ryan Adams, Moby), but they've got a much higher percentage of rock. It's a good balance, too, between popular (Green Day, U2), cool (Magnets for Bad Energy, Tommy Stinson), retro (Sex Pistols), and camp (William Shatner w/ Joe Jackson). And, of course, you can listen live all day long.
I hate to crab on a good station, but I have to agree. The Current could benefit from adding more actual ROCK to their playlist. They seem to concentrate--almost exclusively--on slow-to-mid-tempo alt-folk and alt-rock. I have to sit through 45 minutes of acoustic strumming in order to hear the new--loud--Bob Mould track. Play some more bands that use Marshall Stacks for god's sake. Instead of playing that new, mellow, Sonic Youth song, play a rocker like 100% or Teen Age Riot. And how about some Fugazi, some My Bloody Valentine, some Swervedriver, some Didjits, and so forth.

, atIt is a good station, except in the morning. I wonder how long Jambo can hold out before he starts demanding more songs from his iPod.
I've been wanting to post some complaints about the Current for a couple weeks now but didn't want to send LM into a tizzy. They do play plenty of good fun stuff that I enjoy but I hear WAY too much plodding angst ridden down tempo music that, frankly, really isn't very good. I find myself flipping around the dial (so to speak) a lot more than I thought I would when the station first started. And on a non-musical note the station does not have a tenth of the personality that REV105 did. I enjoy Thorn and Mary but back in the REV days it felt like you were all in on the same joke that most of the public was missing. There's nothing particularly funny about the Current.
I read an interview with a MPR higher-up. She said "The Current will never rock". To which I responded, "Then Jerjo will stop listening."
And playing as Oasis song I have heard a thousand times does not count as rocking.

, atI heard they aren't allowed to play anothing that rocks harder than the Indigo Girls. That might be just a rumor.
I have heard The White Stripes, The Strokes, Husker du, the Replacements etc. so it is not that they won't do it. And I'm not even complaining that they need more of it. My big complaint is that way too much of the down tempo stuff is pretty sophmoric.
Sure Jambo, but to get to one White Stripes song I have to wade through lots of emo angst, some alt-folk, a vintage country or blues song that I have heard about 1600 times, a couple songs with drum loops... It got old pretty fast. It's like Cities 97 for the hipsters. And that's not a compliment.
