Dear CP:
This is your neck of the woods. Explanation, please?
Cordially, Hammer
..An Oklahoma poll shows most Tulsans want a Bible-based exhibit at the Tulsa Zoo of the type rejected earlier this year by a city board. Nearly 59 percent of the people surveyed said they favor an exhibit at the zoo explaining the Earth's origins according to the Bible. Thirty-three percent said they disapprove of it. Al Soltow, a consultant for the Oklahoma Poll, says "It's clear from this sample that the majority of Tulsans believe that the two explanations of the origin of the species -- one scientific, one religious -- should be displayed together."
This is the Eastern Oklahoma version of the gay marriage amendment. However, in Tulsa this is a wedge issue that separates the conservatives from the crazy conservatives.
The big deal at the zoo is that there is a statue of ganesh outside of the elephant cage. The crazies think that this is a "religious" statue (rather than cultural...showing how other parts of the world view elephants) and that because the Hindus get their props from the park board, so should Christianity.
We had a post a while back called the Tulsan Horse.....wait...here you go:

We were in OK when it happened. Pretty funny stuff. It's one of those marytr events. It becomes more politically potent in defeat than it does in the original build up.
