Here's an idea for the iTunes Music Store video department. Instead of just having a few two-bit TV shows (people are really paying $2 to watch an episode of Desperate Housewives?) how about in the weeks prior to the Oscars making available for download all the nominated short subject films? Thanks to a couple Landmark theatres and the Oak Street Cinema we do better here than most other cities that aren't New York or Los Angeles but come Oscar time almost all of us will see a few of the categories and realize we've never even had a chance to see the nominated films. Granted there's not a huge audience for most of them but with a minimum of promotion and a tie-in to the Oscar broadcast I bet enough people would check them out to make it worthwhile. They could even run a commercial right after the award is given out--"You didn't see any of those films? Well here's your chance. Go download them instead of watching the coming dance number for one of the crappy nominated songs. You can have all five of them for about what you paid to go see The Dukes of Hazzard." I know I'd pay a couple dollars to see Isabella Rossellini's 16 minute My Dad is 100 Years Old and I'm sure that there are a few others that will have clips intriguing enough to get people to risk a few bucks.
So Steve, if you're reading this, how 'bout it?
Jambo, I think that is a truly fabulous idea. Animated shorts too please.
