Now I won't pretend that my girls have not had a few fries in their 5 years, but 20% of two year olds are having them EVERYDAY?! Holy crap. The Mrs. is a flight attendant and reports that she often cringes when parents request Coke to put in their kids' baby bottles (not sippy cups, baby bottles.) I can only assume these are the same kids.A major study conducted by Gerber found that up to one-third of young children don't eat any vegetable daily, but that the French fry is the single most common one they do consume. And among children age 19 months to 24 months, 20 percent eat French fries at least once a day.
Big Sister Hammer eats her share of fried potatoes, but considering she won't each much of anything, the greater concern is that she would disappear into nothingness without the empty calories.
More importantly, I don't think a potato is a vegetable. It's mostly starch -- carbohydrates -- and lacking in the fiber and vitamins you would find in broccoli or spinach.
