Disingenuity, thy name is Mark

Posted by: Hammer / 1:00 PM

Makeover Mark Kennedy sets a new standard for disingenuousness:

At times like these, when our country is fighting a global War against radical jihadists, and there is so much at stake for our nation’s security, we must put politics aside. The arrests this morning in Great Britain make it clear that now, more than ever, this is an on-going battle and we need leaders in Washington who remain committed to doing what is right instead of what may be seen as politically advantageous.

It’s in that spirit that I would like to offer my support for Sen. Joe Lieberman’s bid for the U.S. Senate from Connecticut. There are many things the Senator and I disagree on. In fact, I doubt he wants many Republican endorsements, given that millions of dollars have been spent attacking him for being too close to Republicans in fighting terrorism.

...Senator Lieberman put principle ahead of politics, which in these days is all too rare among Democrats in Washington.

So Makeover Mark uses terror arrests in England as a time peg to announce that he thinks he can score cheap political points by supporting Joe Lieberman. Kennedy doesn't put politics aside long enough to urge Joe Scharwz to run as an independent.

Kennedy, and other Republicans, are showing the love for Joe Lieberman for two very obvious, very political reasons. First, it offers a fig leaf of bipartisanship. "See," the endorsement says, "I want to work with Democrats, but the Democrats keep electing these far-left wingers." The fig leaf is necessary because today's Republican party hasn't been at all interested in bipartisan legislation. They would rather have 51 votes of 100 than 55. Second, it's just a backhanded way to say Democrats are soft on terror.

Here's Ken Mehlman's reprehensible attempt to further divide the country:

It [Lamont's primary victory] speaks volumes about the new Democrat Party: if you stand for a strong defense and victory in the War on Terror, you have no place in the party and you must be purged.

Got that? According to the chair of the Republican National Committee, Democrats are committed to losing the War on Terror. This is true extremism. This is divide at all costs. This is an attempt to turn neighbor against neighbor.

99.99% of Republicans want America to be the greatest nation it can. 99.99% of Democrats want America to be the greatest nation it can. There's room to differ on means and methods -- we can be as far apart as East is from West. But we're still Americans who love the promise that defines America apart from all other nations.

To the millions of Americans who love their country and vote for Republicans: Thanks for loving your country. Thanks for caring enough to vote. I think you're mistaken. Let's talk.

To Ken Mehlman and Tony Perkins ("The truth is the left has always been better at promoting bigotry and hatred."): you are douchebags.
