I suspect that most people will take the estimated 601,000 violent deaths in Iraq and pass it through an ideological prism. If you're opposed to the war, it validates your opinion. If you support the war, you invalidate the estimate.
Let me ask a different question. Assuming the numbers are accurate, is there any way to argue that the war was a good idea? Has been a success? Is making us safer?
By the way, according to the estimate, 2 to 3 out of every 100 Iraqis have died violently in the last 3 1/2 years. If you exclude the Kurdish minority, the figure is even higher. Imagine an America where, on average, one small family in every neighborhood has been killed in the last 3 years. Who's letting their kids trick or treat in that neighborhood?
