I don't know whose fault this is, but Katie Couric's already imbalanced Free Speech segment took a turn for the offensive tonight. No transcript yet, but suffice to say that the cause of the tragedy in Pennsylvania is maybe not what you would expect: lack of prayer in schools, evolution, and abortion.
I'm not going to lay claim to an answer about America's gun violence. But if it's the fact that American science classes are based on actual science, I'll be stunned for eternity. America is far more dogmatically Christian than her peers -- yet our secular cohort doesn't have this problem. They teach evolution in the Netherlands, but they don't have school shootings in Amsterdam.
The same is true for government-sponsored religion and abortion. Linking these policy choices to the deranged acts of homicidal criminals defies reason.
CBS's crime was not for what they aired, but for what they failed to air. There is precious little national television time, and they chose to give time to a man who seems to have turned personal tragedy into a political vendetta. Shame on CBS for allowing tragedy to be turned into irresponsible politicking. Someone should be held accountable for this decision. It's time to fire Katie Couric.

I found this quote interesting:
expelling God from the school and from the government, replacing him with evolution, where the strong kill the weak, without moral consequences and life has no inherent value.
is this really what right wingers believe? the country was founded on the notion that church should be seperate from the govt, and right now, the USA is boardering on being a theocracy.
the movie "jesus camp" is brainwashing kids to believe anyone but thier little corner of christianity is 'bad'.

"Colonel Miller said Mr. Roberts was distraught at the death of his first child, a premature baby who died after 20 minutes in November 1997. “Roberts was angry with God” about the child’s death, Colonel Miller said."
Hmm, guess he wasn't a godless atheist after all. No word yet on his views of Darwin or whether he belonged to Planned Parenthood. Any guesses?
(And no I'm not making light of this event or using it for political purposes, I'm simply responding to someone else's attempt to score some ridiculous political points with it. If there is anything more horrible, more heinous, more disgusting than lining up a bunch of little Amish girls and executing them I have no fucking clue what it is. There are times when I wish I believed in a Hell.)
