Open Source Friday: Honeypot Projects

Posted by: Hammer / 4:45 PM

Honeypot projects. Their name, not mine. Put a computer with known security vulnerabilities on the Internet. Watch to see how long until it is hacked. Windows machine? Maybe minutes. Linux machine? Maybe months.

Which do you want to drive?

FYI-

PC Week magazine had an interesting article on using a Windows XP machine to emulate Linux as a honeypot.

I can't find it online. If you have a link, I'd like to update the original entry.

You couldn't find it online because I got the source wrong. It's Novell's Connection magazine, not PC Week.

Anyway, here is the link. http://www.novell.com/connectionmagazine/2004/07/tech_talk_6.html

The article describes using Specter running on Windows to emulate a Linux honeypot.
