The power of loaded questions

Posted by: Hammer / 1:12 PM

UPDATE Captain Ed referenced Bosnia, not Kosovo. According to America President (a University of Virginia project) :
Clinton sent a peacekeeping force of 20,000 American troops (part of a larger NATO deployment) into the region to enforce a cease-fire that was to be followed by free elections in September 1996. American and NATO troops enforced an uneasy settlement that stabilized war-torn Bosnia with no American casualties.
This article, apparently reprinted from the Weekly Standard, claims that there were 3 American deaths in Bosnia as of May, 1997. Two were suicides, one was a result of a land mine. According to the BBC, "Most of NATO's casualties over the years have been caused by traffic accidents."

Hammer hates his errors more than anyone. Fortunately, in this case, the error allows the more important truth to be elevated: Good Captain Ed is wrong if he talks about Bosnia or Kosovo.

Reacting to ABC news covering a soldier's funeral on the day of Bush's inauguration, CQ says:
Just about the time the President was speaking. Of course, that's exactly what they wanted to do from the start -- to tie Bush to the funeral of the young soldier in order to attack Bush passive-aggressively. It's exploitation of the worst order, and more to the point, a cowardly act. Did ABC ever run a funeral of a soldier killed in Bosnia or Somalia during a Clinton event, let alone an inauguration? Moreover, did ABC ever pursue such an angle like this with web pleas to its viewers?"
Can I make a question sound like it's a statement? Do you think I can? Do the people at CQ ever look anything up?

Look, it's kinda hard to tie any soldiers dying in Somalia to Clinton. George HW Bush sent the troops to Somalia in December, 1992, before Clinton was inaugurated. Combat deaths in the intervening weeks surely would not be Clinton's fault? No American soldiers died in combat in Kosovo. Troops went in in 1999, after Clinton's second inaugural, so footage from the funerals of the 2 American soldiers who died in Kosovo would've come 2 years too late.

So, ABC didn't run a funeral of a soldier killed in Bosnia or Somalia during an inauguration. However, did ABC refuse to report on any of the Reagan administration scandals during his two week funeral because they were weak, cowardly slaves of the right? I'm just asking a question, so I don't need to bother to look for an answer.

Can you please post a link detailing American combat deaths in Bosnia?

In that case, I will wait for the media and the left to subtract the hundreds of military fatalities in Iraq that have occurred as a result of military training accidents.

Good news! You don't have to wait. The left wing media typically identifies combat and non-combat deaths in their tallies. For example, check the Washington Post. Check AntiWar.com. Check the New York Times. All of them identify combat and non-combat deaths.
