One more note before I (most likely) wreck everything Jambo, Libby Mae, and I have put together so far. MN Publius has a great post on the hypocrisy of Pawlenty's use of the line item veto on the emergency bill to keep state parks open. Did state Dems expect the partial veto? Was there any agreement on the terms? Are the Republicans really working toward a compromise when Pawlenty is willing to veto $17,000 to help homeless people find jobs?
I've been reading about this in the La Crosse Tribune. What is this about the DFL leader closing session on the eve of a deal? Seems they want to hit Pawlenty as the first governor to preside over a shutdown. But it may backfire. Pawlenty isn't going to give back what he offered during negotiations. In WI the big fight is over education. Republican controlled Joint Finance has slashed the budget for the UW system. Word has it the MN has three of four times as much budgeted for education. It will be an interesting battle.

, atMinnesota hasn't had an increase in K-12 education in the last 4 years, I believe. It's an interesting issue, because most of the cost increases are for special education and health care costs for workers. Yet again, if we could get health care costs under control, everything else would be easier.
