How corrupt are you?

Posted by: Hammer / 1:28 PM

In honor of Tom DeLay's indictment, I'm going to invite everyone to determine how corrupt they are...how to measure such a thing, though? Kevin Drum reports he has read 14 of the 100 most challenged books.

I've read (14): Huck Finn (#5), Of Mice and Men (#6), Harry Potter (#7), Catcher in the Rye (#13), A Wrinkle in Time (#22), To Kill a Mockingbird (#41), The Outsiders (#43), A Light in the Attic (#51), Brave New World (#52), Cujo (#55), James and the Giant Peach (#56), Slaughterhouse Five (#69), Tom Sawyer (#84), How to Eat Fried Worms (#96)

I've seen (9): Harry Potter (#7), Color Purple (#18), To Kill a Mockingbird (#41), The Outsiders (#43), Flowers for Algernon (#47), Cujo (#55), Lord of the Flies (#70), Carrie (#77), Private Parts (#87)

Total corruption score: 23. Throw in a category for "books Ms. Hammer owns" and it's closer to 30.

What's your corruption score?

Read the book:

Scary Stories (Series) by Alvin Schwartz (read part of one book)
I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou (read a few poems)
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain
Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck
Harry Potter (Series) by J.K. Rowling (read first book)
The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
Sex by Madonna (does standing in the library looking for the naughty bits count as reading?)
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
A Light in the Attic by Shel Silverstein (read a few poems)
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl
The Anarchist Cookbook by William Powell
The House of Spirits by Isabel Allende
Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut
Lord of the Flies by William Golding
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain
Where’s Waldo? by Martin Hanford (have found a couple Waldos, why is this banned, other than being a complete waste of a kids reading time?)
Little Black Sambo by Helen Bannerman

Saw the movie:
The Color Purple by Alice Walker
The Dead Zone by Stephen King
Cujo by Stephen King
Beloved by Toni Morrison
The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton
The Witches by Roald Dahl

Listened to a Jefferson Airplane song that uses the title:
Go Ask Alice by Anonymous

Adopting the version of the facts most favorable to the plaintiff I have "read" 24 of these.

I've done a few Waldos with the girls. I guess I assumed that this was a different thing.

I am not going to play this game until we get Jambo's to run the "favorite movie scenes" poll.

Gee, I thought I was well read and all, but I only came up with 27... Mercer Mayer? Shel Silverstein? Some people's children are really deprived. Not that Night Kitchen is as good as Where the Wild Things Are or anything- the issue there must be in the illustrations(you can see a little boy naked)
Any way, I think I need to read more. Does it count if I watched The Dead Zone on tv? once? because then I've got 28...
