Chavez: Off the deep end

Posted by: Hammer / 3:30 PM

Curious how so many left-wing authoritarians turn out to be nut jobs. BBC:

Venezuela's President, Hugo Chavez, says he is in possession of intelligence showing that the United States plans to invade his country.

In a BBC interview, Mr Chavez said the US was after his nation's oil, much as it had been after Iraq's.

But he stressed that any invasion would never be allowed to happen.

To be fair to Chavez, there's a big difference between saying this stuff and believing this stuff. I'm sure there are some people in the White House who would gladly fight authorize a war against Venezuela, but we just don't have the troops or the money to launch another invasion.

I mean, seriously, if we were going to invade another country with oil resources, we'd have to bring all those troops home from Iraq, then redeploy them thousands of miles to the south. It'd be a heckuva lot easier to march on Tehran. Much, much, much shorter commute.
