When is it time to try something new in Iraq? Is it after a car bomb kills 26? Or after a group of gunmen kill roughly 50 shoppers in a market?
More than 50 people were reported killed near Baghdad today after dozens of gunmen fired mortars at a busy market before storming it with automatic weapons and rocket-propelled grenades, police said.
The heavily armed attackers went on a rampage at the open air market in Mahmudiya, 20 miles south of Baghdad, a police captain, Rashid al-Samarraie, said. He put the death toll at 41, with 90 wounded.
And if we see 130 casualties today, aren't we sure to see 200 by next week? What's our next move? More of the same, wait for things to get worse? Or change direction and hope we pick a better course?
