Al Qaeda candidates

Posted by: Hammer / 8:14 AM

Last week, Chuck Roberts of CNN Headline News described Ned Lamont:

“How does this factor into the Lieberman/Lamont contest? And might some argue, as some have, that Lamont is the al Qaeda candidate?”

Arianna Huffington followed up by calling for Roberts to be disciplined for his fraudulent statement.

HUFFINGTON: You cannot find a single person who called Lamont the al Qaeda candidate, except Chuck Roberts. And what have been the consequences when it comes to Chuck Roberts? Has he been demoted to be covering Paris Hilton or entertainment news? ... It's about time that there is that same kind of accountability that Charles is demanding from photojournalists from journalists, as well.

According to Ron Suskind's book, one government source did pick out something of an Al Qaeda candidate in 2004. George Bush:

On Oct. 29, 2004, just four days before the U.S. presidential election, al-Qaeda leader Osama bin-Laden released a videotape denouncing George W. Bush. Some Bush supporters quickly spun the diatribe as “Osama’s endorsement of John Kerry.” But behind the walls of the CIA, analysts had concluded the opposite: that bin-Laden was trying to help Bush gain a second term.

Current mind-reading technology is too flawed to be of real news value. George Bush thinks you fight Al Qaeda by going some place they have never been and bombing people they never cooperated with. Ned Lamont doesn't think that's very good policy. George Bush is free to defend his policy. Ned Lamont should be free to criticize it without being subject to such heinous attacks.
