Why Democrats lose elections

Posted by: Hammer / 7:06 PM

How we treat terror suspects is an important issue that too many Democrats dodged in vain. I would love to win some elections, but I would rather lose elections standing up for the principle that all people are innocent until proven guilty (by evidence they are allowed to see and is not obtained through torture) than lose elections by hoping the other side is willing to put American ideals ahead of political gamesmanship.

Not to mention the fact that I have trouble voting for any Democrat dumb enough to think the current Republican leadership would ever put anything ahead of political gamesmanship.

As I noted in an email I sent to Jambo the other day, I am so frustrated that I cannot stand it. We have the most corrupt and most criminal administration that we have ever had in this nation, one that thinks torture is okay, one that has done severe damage to the Bill of Rights and to the Constitution and will continue to do so, and we have no - repeat no -effective opposition.
The Republicans - at least the faux repbulicans and their alter ego the militant Christian right - take politics seriously. They have for the past 20 years.
The Democrats take it as a game, pandering to every conceivable interest group so that everyone feels good. Problem is that we end up with the most corrupt and most criminal administration, etc., with no effective opposition.
I saw a guy with a "Tom Harkin for President" bumper sticker the other day. Does anyone in their right mind (no pun intended) believe that Harkin has a ghost of a chance to carry any state? Yet, instead of working to find a candidate that can actually win an election, numbnuts wants to fantasize about the pureness of his political ideal. This is pure madness.
I wish the Democrats would wake up some day and decide to be serious about being a political party. The world is too serious a place for anything else. If the Dems won't, then it's time for a new party.
If the Dems would decide to take a stand on something - like torture, for instance - people might begin to realize that Democratic candidates do in fact stand for something. And, if Democratic candidates do in fact stand for something, they might get elected.
I don't like the faux Republicans (right wing theocrats all) one bit. The fact that there are no Democrats (only a bunch of jokers playing at politics) really makes me ill.

I think Harkin would carry Iowa.

My point exactly.

Kerry was seen by many as the most electable candidate. That didn't work out very well.

He very well might have been electable, but he was taking advice from the same dummy that was running Al Gore's campaign.
